Cy and I visited Corregidor Island on my birthday. Ito ung mga panahong malimit ako tumingin ng mga discounted offers sa MetroDeal kaya when I saw the discounted day tour voucher for Corregidor Island, I availed it. It was one of the best places we've visited near Manila and I guarantee that you will absolutely appreciate this island kapag binisita nyo to. Currently, Weekend Day Tour nila will cost you P3,629 per person which includes island entrance fee, buffet lunch, island tour and roundtrip ferry.

About Corregidor Island

Strategically located at the entrance of Manila Bay, Corregidor is a small rocky island in the Philippines about 48 kilometers west of Manila. Once an island fortress, Corregidor now serves as a memorial for the courage, valor, and heroism of Filipino and American defenders who bravely held their ground against the overwhelming Japanese forces during World War II. It was a 90-minute boat ride from Esplanade Seaside Terminal to Corregidor Island.

There were tranvias waiting for us upon our arrival at the historic Island.

This happened four years ago and I really couldn't recall the name of our tour guide pero hinding hindi ko makakalimutan ung energy nya. He was so lively, knowledgeable, and accommodating the entire time.

After visiting the first few historical sites, we availed "The Malinta Experience" for P200 per person kahit medyo hesitant kami at first. Para sakin, if you go to Corregidor Island, you should also include this activity sa tour nyo. It was a light and sound show to relive the life in the tunnel during the war.

About Malinta Tunnel
The Malinta Tunnel served as a shelter during the non-stop Japanese bombardment of Corregidor. It housed an office for the Philippine President, a medical ward and various offices and arsenals. The United States Army Corps of Engineers and Filipino soldiers carved the 831 feet long, 24 feet wide and 28 feet high tunnel from the rocky Malinta Hill. 13 lateral tunnels branch off from its north side and 11 on its right. The place is literally bombproof due to the hill’s solid rock material. The tunnel got its name, Malinta, which literally translates to “full of leeches” as the place was said to have been crawling with these slimy slugs during its 10-year construction. After the Malinta Tunnel light and sound show, we continued touring around the island and visited the wrecked buildings and preserved military installations.

At around noon, we had our buffet lunch which was already included in our voucher. I was surprised sa venue for our lunch kasi ang fresh ng ambiance, masarap ung pagkain, and great customer service. Ito ung day tour na talagang pampered ka.

After our lunch, pinuntahan namin ung malapit na historic lighthouse and we even climbed to the top.

We spent the rest of the afternoon visiting museums and some more ruins.

We left the island at around 2 PM.

It was a birthday well spent. Isa ang Corregidor Island sa mga pinaka-memorable places na napuntahan namin. We'll bring our parents to this historic island one day.
