SAGADA 2024: EXPLORING SUMAGUING CAVE

The other half of our second day in Sagada was spent exploring the Sumaguing Cave. Wala sana sa plano namin ni Cy na sumama but since my mother-in-law volunteered to look after Agatha, we joined. Kuya Willis was still our tour guide.

At exactly 2 pm we were on board a shuttle on the way to the famous Sumaguing Cave, and after roughly 10 minutes we reached our destination.

I didn't expect the extrance to be so massive. Prior to our trip nagbasa na ako ng mga blogs about other people's experiences spelunking through Sumaguing Cave pero iba pala talaga when you personally see and explore it. Imagine, the depth of the cave is comparable to a 40-storey building. Isa na naman to sa mga "sana nagpa-iwan nalang ako sa tinutuluyan namin" kind of adventure. Hahaha.

But after walking a few more meters and reaching another opening, that's when I realized na mapapalaban ako. Waaa.

Before going down, Kuya Willis encouraged us to take a group photo para sa 'before and after' daw.

There were six of us: DJ, Kuya Nelson, Kuya Jeff, Cy, me, and Kuya Willis, our tour guide. Walang ilaw sa loob ng kweba kaya the tour guides bring their own lamps.

I'm glad that Cy wasn't scared of this type of adventure and he guided me well, aside from Kuya Willis of course. Well, I felt that it was the best strategy for me.

After our steep descent sa mababatong bahagi ng kweba we finally reached the part where the water flows.

We were required to remove our footwears since it was safer to walk and hop through rock formations barefooted kasi magagaspang na ung mga batong aapakan namin.

There were plenty of cold and clear water pools that you can dip your body into pero you have to make sure that you don't drink it kasi baka nahaluan na ng jebs ng mga paniki.

Kuya Willis would ask us from time to time kung anong nakikita naming figures sa mga rock formations then eventually telling us what they actually look like. Some are kinky ones. lol.

Eto ung mga pagkakataon na you just need to have faith that everything goes well til the end.

There was a part where we had to use a rope to go down. My initial reaction was "Kaya ba to ng katawan ko?".

The end of the trek was a cold plunge into a deep water. I skipped kasi wala akong dalang spare na damit at bra.

Anyways, the ascent was the easiest part. It looked scary pag tinignan mo ung aakyatin pabalik but as long as you don't feel intimated you'll be alright.

I felt so relieved when I finally saw the familiar light. We made it alive!

We took an 'after spelunking' photo looking wet and extra happy. Haha.

Nakakapagod ung pag-akyat namin ng hagdan pabalik sa main road but the thought of me and Cy coming back to our daughter outweighed my already tired legs.

We were gone for 3 hours.

Kinagabihan nag dinner kami sa Sagada Bistro where I had a delicious pasta.
